Pour ceux qui veulent la vérité sur Finest Squad, je vous la balance ( C'est en Anglais)

Finest Squad was “born” on December 2 and came into being solely to take on Lizard Squad. If Lizard Squad did not exist, Finest Squad would not exist. The context from which FS was born is the fake video released about Anonymous versus Lizard Squad by someone who was perhaps hoping to ride the wave of the Lizard Squad induced panic to spread their message. The maker of this fake video had taken the Official Anonymous video, #OpAnonVerdict that had been released in late November, and grafted on a voiceover. In this fake video a voice claiming to be Anonymous asserted that they were working with the FBI to go after LS. To anyone who knows anything about the work of Anonymous, it was obvious that this video’s primary intent was to undermine Anonymous by suggesting that the Anon Collective would collude with the FBI and for a cause as trivial as making sure people would not lose temporary access to live play gaming on Christmas Day.

If undermining Anonymous was the intent, it did not work because nearly everyone who viewed the video hailed Anonymous as the group that saved Christmas. The cry of relief and gratitude from gamers for this “savior” was loud and sustained. Hundreds of young gamers tweeted and in comments on YouTube expressed their unabashed appreciation for Anonymous coming to the rescue.

Even though this video failed of its purpose, it created a dilemma for Anonymous. If the Collective did not immediately, and in no uncertain terms, disavow this video, those who support the real operations of Anonymous could come to question the integrity of Anonymous. So a bot-message was sent out to every single person who gave indication that they thought the video was real, informing them that the video did not come from that part of the Anonymous Collective that was engaged in serious real-world operations.

However, Anonymous continued to be beset with requests from increasingly frantic gamers who seemed seriously worried, even frightened, about the prospect of having their live game playing interrupted. Each one of these requests was met with the same pithy response from Anonymous Protection, stating their noninvolvement with the fake video, but ultimately they were wholly unable to convince their earnest and despairing young Tweeters to not take their gaming so seriously. Instead, an ever-increasing number of young gamers continued to express, with growing vehemence and desperation, their need for a superhero savior. Anonymous, disappointingly, was not going to be that person.

Enter Finest Squad. Their Twitter page cleverly invoked the FBI and CIA to suggest a tie-in to the fake video, the contents of which FS no doubt recognized was still being hero-worshipped by the young gamers despite Anonymous’ rejection of the video. Full of bravado and boasting, FS quickly attracted a large following from those who had been ready to follow just about anybody that expressed a willingness to fight Lizard Squad. It turns out FS was not up to the task of taking down LS, and Anonymous was still inundated with endless, increasingly pitiful requests to take down LS. So Anonymous Protection did what they have demonstrated they know well how to do, and presented Twitter with the needful evidence to suspend LS’s Twitter Accounts.

Soon afterwards, Finest Squad claimed responsibility for the suspension and proceeded to make other claims about how they plan to defeat LS. This actually solved a problem for Anonymous. Except for a handful of watchful Tweeters, who understood what Anonymous Protection did, the hordes of gamers turned to FS to hero worship and beg for protection. Anonymous Protection was able to return to their normal work of going after Twitter accounts that prey on innocent people.

This all changed on the morning of December 11, when FS sent out their now infamous tweet inviting donations. Minutes after this tweet went out Anonymous Protection, in an attempt to persuade young gamers to not donate to this false cause, began to inform everyone about who had actually been responsible for the suspension of LS’s Twitter accounts. But it did not stop the growing tide of adoring fans, who have eagerly responded to FS’s call for people to support them and join their team. FS has now put out a video, promising uninterrupted gaming pleasure on Christmas day, making a peace offering to Anonymous who they claim is not an enemy, and just overall oozing with good will.

Is FS’s gesture of good will genuine? The Anonymous Collective, who got originally dragged into all this because of the fake Anon vs. LS video, would obviously prefer not to devote scarce time and resources to dealing with the over-hyped Lizards versus Gamers nonsense. However, if the reputation of Anonymous as a serious force to be reckoned with helped contribute to the creation of the sickening hero-worshipped God that FS has now become to its adoring followers, Anonymous probably cannot and will not just stand aside and watch naïve young gamers get scammed into contributing time, money, and earnest effort to Finest Squad.
